After seeing the Space Needle, you might to take some respite in the Inn at Queen Anne before heading for the San Juan Island, a unique fun place for the entire family.
At this moment, an introduction to the history of the San Juan Island is what you might be looking for...
San Juan Islands was inhabited by red indians in the 18th century. British and Spanish explorers settled on San Juan Islands by as late as the 1850s. Farming, cattle breeding were the foremost occupations while living in one of the best
locations in the United States.
During the 'Pig War' tension between British and Americans, Lyman Cutlar, an American dweller shot dead a British-owned hog that resulted in an attack on theAmerican's potato patch. Massive U.S. troops were sent to face the British authorities when they attempted to take Cutlar into custody. British warships then appeared off the San Juan coast and a shooting war looked imminent. After a long conflict over the possession of land in San Juan, the case was submitted for adjudication to the Kaiser of Germany. In 1872 the kaiser favored the Americans as legal occupants of the land. Thus the final territorial conflict ever between the United States and Great Britain concluded amicably.
Tomorrow, we check out whats on San Juan Island...

If you go to the Space Needle you had better know something about the structure. Well, here goes...
Constructed at just $4.5 million, the Space Needle is a fantastic monument of Seattle history. Aircraft Warning Beacon is the top most point of the Space Needle measuring 605 feet, 184 meters (from sea level, 730.25 feet) going 30 feet to the bottom. The observation deck of the tower is 520 feet above the ground. The revolving SkyCity restaurant is 500 feet above with SkyLine banquet facility 100 feet above. Space Needle was built on a 120-foot x120-foot lot formerly owned by the city of Seattle.
When built in 1962, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River with some amazing facts associated with it. It sways approximately 1 inch for every 10 mph of wind. It was designed to withstand 200-mph winds. Whenever winds around the Needle reach high speeds, say 35 mph or higher, the elevators are designed to reduce their traveling speed to 5 mph for safety reasons. Sometimes, the Space Needle had to be shut down because the winds have become high enough to issue warning. However, on a hot day the Needle expands about 1 inch.

Stay at the Inn at Queen Anne and head for the Space Needle
Before you go ...some history of this Seattle monument
When you stay at the Inn at Queen Anne you can go to the Space Needle, a magnificent structure sticking out into the Seattle sky. The Space Needle is a glorious example of architectural wizardry. Envisioned by Edward Carlson, Seattle's Space Needle has become famous for its space-age like visage.
The trials and tribulations that Carlson had to face during the making of this super structure are legend. Inspired by the Stuttgart Tower in Germany, the Space Needle has become the symbol of the new Seattle, a vibrant image that you will remember.
From paper to reality was a gargatuan task that architects like John Graham and many others completed to build this 605-foot tall edifice. The five-level top house dome was completed with special attention paid to the revolving restaurant level and Observation Deck. It was completed in December 1961 and officially opened a mere four months later on the first day of the World's Fair, April 21, 1962.
The World's Fair inaugurated with nearly 20,000 people a day traveling to the top. It hosted over 2.3 million visitors during the Fair and is still, nearly 40 years later, Seattle's number one tourist destination.
In 2000, the Space Needle underwent a $20 million refurnishing.

Staying in Seattle?
If you are planning to stay in Seattle, theirs no better place than the Inn at Queen Anne. Located in Downtown Seattle, just next to the Space Needle, the Inn at Queen Anne has built an unenviable position in the hospitality industry. Its home to culture and sophistication of Seattle, well, its in that kinda area!!! can that be helped?
It gets its name from the Queen Anne Hill- well it's not just a coincidence that its located at the base of the Queen Anne Hill, is it? The Inn is part of history that goes back to the 1930s. Its a rich neighborhood with the Seattle center just a walk away.
Staying at the Inn at Queen Anne will take you back in time, surely. But its also got all modern facilities, so you will feel at home. From the cozy lobby with its tiffany lamps and antiques, theirs a sense of loss you will feel. Why aren't more such hotels around, hotels that can blend the old and the new with such a marvelous effect? Maybe you just deserve staying here, more than the rest. Sit in the lobby and relax in the lovely ambience. The hotel staff will request you to have a drink or some of their choicest coffee. As you relax you are sure to notice the aroma of fresh brewing coffee pervading the lobby air. Truly refreshing!
I could take you into some of the better parts of the Inn at Queen Anne, but thats for someother day, maybe tomorrow...

"Best of the Northwest", a Free Seattle Summer Fest held between August 16-17,2003 (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
Outdoors at Sand Point Magnuson Park
7400 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA
It's the place for entire family to have fun, shop, listen to music with stage performances and taste some delectable food. Organised in conjunction with SPARC!(Sand Point Arts, Recreation & Community), the Best of the Northwest offers recreation for all ages.
Started in 1989, the 'best of the northwest' was a dream project by artists who dared to think 'out of the box'.30 or more artists came together and invested money to start the show with aspirations to produce a very high quality show. This show is seen by most as a miracle, with a bunch of "artist types" working together to create something so big and nurturing it to survive for so many years.
Portland was a natural second show location, and was added in 1995. Seattle was chosen as the spring location for the show in 1998 and became the spring show. Check out the gallery.
